German Taxi Grand Prix
6 JULY 09
10 JULY 09
308.863 km
Our second race of the Taxi Grand Prix season and you could almost smell the rubber burning as the drivers hit the road. This time, there were no early front-runners and it wasn’t clear who was going to take the top points and places on the podium.
Day one of the race saw Graham, Saeid and Andy get off to a flier. On day two a massive thunderstorm swept across the UK, adding to the excitement and bringing in some big fares for the drivers. As the race progressed, Eddy had an immense day behind the wheel with several airport drops; there was also a stewards’ enquiry into some timing issues and GPS irregularities. The first power ups and penalties of the Taxi GP season were also awarded.
What about the teams though? Cab 1 was the ultimate victor snatching pole position from Too Little Too Late, who left it a little too late to claim first and had to settle for second. Team Flex, only four minutes behind took third place on the podium and Tabbies Express and Denise were closely behind and completed the top five prize winning positions – what a nail biting race to the finish!

Both Lewis and Heikki got off to a great start from fifth and sixth on the grid respectively. Lewis looked like he was moving up into pole but an encounter with Webber on the first corner caused a puncture, and he was forced to pit and change his tyre. This setback meant he ended up finishing eighteenth. Heikki had fortune and thanks to some great driving, finishing eighth, scoring points for the team.
