Hungarian Taxi Grand Prix
20 JULY 09
24 JULY 09
306.630 km
With over five thousand teams racing, the Hungarian Taxi Grand Prix was a real test of tactics and determination. Congratulations to everyone who finished the race, especially those who finished in the top ten.
So how did the third race of the season play out? Once again our drivers were in high spirits, Twittering like crazy and keeping everyone updated on their progress. The Race Marshal was also on top form and very generous with the power ups. Eddy and Graham covered the most distance overall and Saied had to spend an hour in the pits as a penalty for leaving his GPS on too long in the last race.
Podium winners Morrells completed the race in just 1 day 3 hours and 12 minutes - a record 17 minutes faster than the winning team in the last race. It was close though, there were only nine minutes between Morrells and second on the podium, team Tay. And the top 10 teams were separated by just over two hours. It was great to see Cab 1 and Denise in the top 10 again.
We're over half way through the season now and just like the real Formula 1 season it's getting very, very interesting. While Cab F1 has a slim lead of seven points in the overall standings, second and third is a dead tie between Morrels and Denise with Piperettes and Reynolds racing hot on their heels.
The Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team at the Hungarian Grand Prix
It all came together for the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team in Hungary where Lewis took his first win of the season and 10th Formula 1 victory.
Both Lewis and Heikki got off to a flying start from fourth and sixth on the grid respectively and the first few corners were tense as the cars jostled for position. After overtaking Webber early on in the race Lewis's stop strategy allowed him to take pole from Alonso when he was in the pits. After that it was just a case of putting time between him and his nearest rivals and keeping cool - not a problem for the reigning champion. Heikki also drove an excellent race finishing fifth overall.
